Join Our Team - Distillery Operative

We are looking for someone to join our small and vibrant North Uist Distillery team as a full time Distillery Operative, producing our multi award winning Downpour gin range and our brand new single malt whisky from our island home in the Outer Hebrides.

North Uist Distillery Operative

The Role

This role will cover all aspects of distillery production, from running the gin stills to filling whisky casks. Requiring meticulous record keeping and attention to detail, the Distillery Operative will follow precise operating procedures and report to our Distillery Manager daily.  They will be an integral part of new product development for the Downpour range, and by joining us at this early stage in our whisky journey will have the rare opportunity to be involved in the development and evolution of our whisky production from the very start.

Who are you?

Someone with a passion for high quality, locally produced, artisan spirits who has meticulous attention to detail and is eager to learn. You work well as part of a small team but are also able to work independently when required. Your record keeping skills are second to none, you understand the need for consistent and accurate process following, and you are able to comfortably lift and carry 25kg bags of grain. While experience in brewing and distilling would be beneficial, it’s far from essential as we will provide all of the training you will need to be a distillery operative.

Who are we?

The Short Answer: North Uist Distillery is a family run gin and whisky distillery making the finest craft sprits from locally foraged and bartered ingredients in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.

The Longer Story: Launched in 2019 by co-founders Kate and Jonny, North Uist Distillery took the gin world by storm with Downpour Scottish Dry Gin. Over the last six years the Downpour range has expanded, the awards have rolled in, and following the fastest selling cask release in Scottish whisky history, we started distilling our single malt whisky at the end of 2024. This coming year will see us building our own malting plant and start full field to bottle whisky production using heritage grain grown by local crofters.

We are a B Corp certified business with environmental sustainability and the wellbeing of our team at the forefront of everything we do, from our carbon neutral production to our annual team camping trips to the most beautiful corners of our island home. Our team is small but dynamic, with a shared passion for creating exquisite spirits that represent the islands we love.

North Uist Distillery has been named Scottish Gin Distillery of the Year for the last three years at the Scottish Gin Awards.
